Innovative Teaching Award
In the spring of 2003, the Southern Union sent a notice to all schools asking students, teachers, and others involved in Adventist education to nominate their teacher of choice for the "Innovative Teaching Award." I was nominated by at least one of my students as well as by my director at AE21, Nancy Melashenko, and others at the main office in Florida. Each nominee filled out a form detailing the work they did that they considered "innovative." I included samples of my plans: The yearly plan, several unit plans, several weekly plans, and several weekly work samples. A committee at the Union level met to choose the winners in each conference. I was privileged to receive the first place award in the Florida Conference. Jim Epperson presented me a plaque and a check for $500.00 at the fall banquet for AE21, held in Florida.
